📰 CHATTANOOGA’S SCOOP
October 5, 2026
💭 QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Helen Keller
A fitting one this week. From getting kids outdoors and supporting veterans to training the people who respond when things go wrong, Chattanooga continues to show what can happen when people come together.
☀️ THE GOOD NEWS
🦌 25 Years of Getting Kids Outdoors
For 25 years, the Barry Stamey Prentice Cooper Youth Hunt has been introducing kids ages 6–16 to the outdoors while creating memories with their families. Volunteers provide food, shirts and prizes, and longtime organizer Vince Sweeton continues putting thousands of his own dollars into making the weekend special. He was recently surprised with a $500 Pay It Forward award to help continue the tradition.

🎣 Fishing With a Veteran
A local Fishing With a Veteran tournament is bringing two great things together: time on the water and giving back to those who served. Organizers are looking for boaters, veterans and sponsors to help make the event a success.
🌉 The Walnut Street Bridge Is Back!
One of Chattanooga’s most recognizable landmarks is welcoming pedestrians again following its major renovation. The Walnut Street Bridge, connecting downtown and the North Shore, reopened this weekend — great news for walkers, runners, visitors and anyone who has missed one of the Scenic City’s best views.

🚒 First Responders Take on the Ocoee
60 firefighters from 10 agencies came together on the Ocoee River for the first Southeastern Swiftwater Rescue Conference. Crews practiced everything from raft navigation and rope rescues to recovering pinned rafts and responding to submerged vehicles — training that could make a real difference during the next water emergency.

📸 Chattanooga Takes a Closer Look at License Plate Readers
A proposed expansion of license plate-reading cameras is getting additional scrutiny from City Council. Councilman Cody Harvey says he wants the city to hear residents’ concerns before moving forward, while city leaders say no additional cameras will be deployed without further council discussion.
